Personal Injury Frequently Asked Questions

Car Accident Plan -

Each day there is the chance you will be involved in a car accident. Odds are you will be in a car accident at some time during your adult life. It’s a common experience, yet how many of us know what to do? Following these simple steps will help you be prepared.

Plan -

The best strategy is to have a plan. Planning is important because it allows you to react automatically in a stressful situation. Reading this article will help you mentally prepare for the steps you need to take.

Breathe -

As soon as the accident happens you will likely be in shock. Once the car has stopped moving, take a moment to PAUSE, TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND REMEMBER YOUR plan. Staying calm after an accident will help you think more clearly and form better reactions.

Move to Safety -

Once you have calmly assessed the situation, see where you can move to safety. If you are not injured, many times it is safer to exit your car and seek a safe place to wait on the side of the road. The aim is to prevent injury from secondary accidents. Do not attempt to move your vehicle. Stay out of the way of traffic. If it is at night, try to move to a lit area so you will be visible to other drivers.

Seek Medical Attention -

As soon as you are able, seek medical attention. Often, the adrenaline rush that occurs during an accident can masks pains or symptoms. When medical personnel arrive, have them perform a medical exam.

Document -

As soon as you are able, document the details of the accident including the time and place of the accident as well as other drivers and cars involved. Note your recollection of the events and any symptoms you may be having. Don’t forget often overlooked details such as traffic conditions, road conditions, weather conditions and any distractions such as construction, signage or large vehicles. Your contemporaneous notes are often the best evidence of what actually occurred.

Remember, any one of us can be in a car accident. The best course of action is to PLAN, BREATHE, MOVE TO SAFETY, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION AND DOCUMENT.
